Germany start the World Cup with a 4-0 victory against Portugal.

Joachim Low’s team have beaten Portugal in their opening game in Brazil. Mario Gotze earned a penalty early on and Thomas Mueller converted it. Mats Hummels then netted a header on 32 minutes, shortly before Pepe was sent off for unsporting behaviour against Mueller. Bayern Munich forward then went on to complete a hat-trick. To make things worse for Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal, Fabio Coentrao was taken away on a strecher and will likely miss the rest of the tournament.

Group rivals Ghana and USA play in several hours.
