World Cup qualifiers. Key fixtures: Macedonia vs Belgium

The upcoming clash between Macedonia and Belgium with home and away fixtures will make many things clearer in the group A.

Macedonia have 6 points less than pool leaders Belgium and Croatia and desperately need a fine result if they want to compete to the qualification.

Belgium was perceived as an uprising power in European football even before the start of the qualification. Despite missing last two World showdowns in 2006 and 2010, Marc Wilmots’ men are one of the most exciting and fast-developing teams in Europe with a bunch of talented youngsters including Alderweireld, Witsel, Fellaini, Vermaelen and Hazard. The team also failed to reach Euro since their home tournament in 2000, yet the failures of the past should only increase the hunger of the current team.

Wilmots has some problems to think about. The visitors will miss the captain Vincent Kompany who is injured, though he did participate in yesterday’s training.

Macedonia already lost two games against the favorites Croatia, but showed solid performance. Now the Macedonians should seek to earn different result if they are to fight for World Cup Qualification.
