World Cup qualifiers’ results (Europe): Armenia thrash Denmark, Ibrahimovic’s brace sinks Faroes

Armenia secured a stunning 4-0 win over Denmark in their World Cup qualifier Group C away game, with Yura Movsisyan scoring a brace.

Movsisyan got Armenia off to a flying start with a fine finish following Kjaer’s mistake, just 27 seconds into the opening half. Armenia extended their lead as Aras Ozbiliz fired home after a poorly timed offside trap, Kjaer the culrit again, in the 19 minute. Movsisyan added his second on a hour mark and, with the Danes staring at the defeat, it was Henrikh Mkhitaryan who rounded off his side’s victory.

The result left Denmark in the fifth spot, level on points with fourth-placed Armenia. Italy are topping the group B with 14 points, followed by Bulgaria in the play-off spot with 10 points and Czech Republic a point further back in the third place.

Group C

Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s two goals earned Sweden a crucial 2-1 win over Faroe Islands to revive their hopes of qualifying for World Cup in Brazil.

Sweden dominated the possession thorough the first half, but struggled to find a way through the massed ranks of the Faroese defense. And yet Sweden’s bad boy Ibrahimovic managed to break the deadlock in the 35th minute. Skipper Ibra netted his second from the penalty spot eight minutes before the final whistle.

The win allowed Sweden moving level on points with second-placed Austria, who outstrip their rivals on goal difference. Germany are lying at the top of the table with 16 points from their six games.

Group I

Finland were held by Belarus to a 1-1 draw courtesy of Verkhovtsov’s late header, which cancelled out Pukki’s first-half goal.
