Abou Diaby was born in Paris. He began his career at the age of 13, when the young footballer joined local club Paris Saint-Germain. Abou left the team two years later though.
Later he started to play for the Auxerre youth team (in 2003) and won the French U-16 Championship. While commenting on Abou’s performance the head coach Guy Roux admitted the footballer was really fast, talented and had wonderfull skills. Abou became a powerful midfielder in his new club. He made his debut for the first team on 14 August 2004 in the match against Rennes.
On 12 January 2006, Abou Diaby signed a contract with the English side Arsenal, which cost ‘The Gunners’ about £2 million. Before the footballer joined the London side club, he made an announcement that one of Arsenal’s rivals Chelsea F.C. wanted to buy him. The player got the number 2 shirt.
Abou made his debut for ‘The Gunners’ on 21 January 2006. He made a sub appearance in the match, which Arsenal lost 0-1. Diaby managed to score his first goal for the club in the match against Aston Villa, which was a 5-0 victory for Arsenal.
On 1 May 2006 Abou Diaby suffered a serious Wagstaffe’s fracture and had to skip eight months.
The footballer’s first match of 2009/2010 was the Champions League qualifier, where his team played against Celtic. Abou came as a substitute for Andrey Arshavin.
In a couple of days Diaby made his start in the Premier League match against Portsmouth and netted a double. He was given praise of the head coach right after the game. The club manager also said the player was perfectly fit for the season and possessed all qualities to perform in the Premier League.
