Alan Tate was born on 2 September 1982 in Easington, England. His football career took off in the Manchester United academy, where he trained and performed for the youth team.
In 2000 Alan penned his first senior contract with MU. The footballer was a captain of the reserve team for some time, but he failed to clinch a place in the main team. In 2001 Tate was sent on loan to Royal Antwerp, made 17 appearances and found the net one time during the 2001/2002 season.
From 2003 Alan played on loan in Swansea City and took part in 36 matches of the club till 2004, when he was offered a contract on permanent basis. The footballer made encouraging display during several seasons and proved to be workmanlike both in centre defense and on flanks. In 2006 he was named the best player of the team.
In August 2011, Tate broke his leg when playing golf, which sentenced him to six months without football. However, in September the same year, ‘The Swans’ extended the defender’s contract for four years, showing their confidence in Alan.
The footballer spent ten years in the club, having performed with Swansea in four English divisions, where he made more than 300 appearances. After a short spell with Leeds United the player returned to the Welsh club but was loaned out again, this time to Yeovil Town.
