Alberto Zapater was born on June 13, 1985 in Ejea de los Caballeros, Spain.
Alberto started his career with Real Zaragoza and in 2004 won the title of the best young player of Aragon, thereby reserving a spot in the first squad. Zapater’s senior debut occurred in the Spanish Super Cup 2004/05 match against Valencia CF.
In the season 2005/06, the player missed only 3 matches having been an unquestionable starter in 31 games of the year. Then Alberto earned the nickname ‘The Bull’ for his strong tackling and the number of fouls he committed. In the season 2007/08 Zapater was trusted the captain’s armband for the first time and since the 2008/09 season he had been the undisputed captain of Real Zaragoza.
In 2009, the midfielder moved to Genoa C.F.C. where he scored 3 goals in 28 games and in summer 2010 left for Sporting CP. On August 3, 2011, the footballer signed a five-year contract with FC Lokomotiv Moscow.
As an international player Alberto Zapater was capped for the U-20 team that participated in the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship . He also featured in several matches for the U-21 Spain national squad but his latest appearance in the kit of a national team occurred in 2006.
