Aleksandr Anyukov is a back of Zenit. He was born on 28 September 1982 in Samara.
Aleksandr took an interest in football due to his elder brother, who was training in the local football school at that time and performed professionally later. Anyukov took part in games of the junior league and clinched the champion’s title playing for Samarets.
The footballer’s senior career did not start as brilliantly as his junior one. In 2000 Aleksandr made his début for Krylia Sovetov in the match against Zenit. All in all, during his performance for the Samara side, Anyukov managed to make 71 appearances and fire three goals. That may seem a very poor efficiency, but we should not forget he was playing at the position of the right back.
Krylia Sovetov soon faced the period of recession, when they had to sell several key players, including Aleksandr, who sealed a deal with Zenit. That was the club, where Anyukov’s career went forward. The Governor of the Samara region personally visited the footballer in order to convince him to stay at his previous club, but that conversation failed, because the back really wanted to move and needed a different scene. A lot of fans considered his transfer to be a treachery and always gave him negative reception at the stadium of the Samara side club.
That was Zenit, where Aleksandr became one of the best Russian backs. The player clinched a lot of trophies for the new team, including the UEFA Cup. Anyukov made stellar display in the finals of the tournament and continued his successful performance in the matches of the Russia national team. The back took part in all five matches of his squad at Euro 2008 and made two assists. As a result, Russia left the Netherlands behind, proceeded to the semi-finals and picked up the bronze medals of the tournament. That is one of the reasons why Aleksandr was named one of the most efficient players of the Russian Premier League.
