Alessandro Diamanti is an attacking midfielder, born on 2 May 1983 in Prato, Italy.
Alessandro entered Santa Lucia Calcio youth system at the age of 6. From 1997 to 1999 the talented midfielder played for Prato youth team.
In 1999 Alessandro signed his first professional contract with Prato and in May 2000 made his debut in Italian pro football. Right after the debut Diamanti was loaned to Empoli. In September 2001 Alessandro Diamanti was loaned to Fucecchio. During the 2001/02 season he made 24 appearances and netted 3 goals. In the summer of 2002 the midfielder returned to Prato, but started only 2 matches during half a season.
In the winter of 2003 Diamanti signed for a spell with Florentia Viola. Alessandro made 6 appearances for the young team and only 3 for the senior squad.
In 2003 Alessandro returned to his alma mater Prato and signed for the club on a 5-year contract. During the 2003/04 season Diamanti featured in 22 matches and netted 4 goals for the club. Alessandro’s strained relations with the head coach prevented him from making a lot of appearances though.
In 2004 Alessandro Diamanti signed for AlbinoLeffe on a 3-year contract. During his debut season at Celeste Alessandro started 18 matches but didn’t score a single goal. In the next season the Italian midfielder didn’t feature much in the starting lineup. Diamanti made a total of 26 appearances for the club.
In January 2006 Prato bought Diamanti back. Despite disqualification Alessandro Diamanti managed to make 37 appearances and score 15 goals. In the summer of 2007 Alessandro Diamanti moved to Livorno. Two seasons at Livorno were quite successful for him, as he started 63 matches and scored 20 goals. In 2009 Alessandro was named one of the best players of the season.
In August 2009 Diamanti was purchased by West Ham United and signed for the club on a 5-year contract. In the 2009/10 season Alessandro featured in 28 matches and scored 7 goals. Due to his experience in the Premier League Diamanti received a lot of offers from the top European clubs.
In 2010 Alessandro Diamanti joined Brescia. He signed for the club until 2015, but after the 2010/11 season, during which he made 32 appearances and scored 6 goals, Alessandro joined Bologna.
In January 2014 Diamanti moved to a Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande, managed by Marcello Lippi
Since 2010 Alessandro has been called up to represent Italy.
