Alexander Baumjohann is a German midfielder. He was born on 23 January 1987 in Waltrop, North Rhine-Westphalia.
Baumjohann’s career began in Teutonia Waltrop, from where he moved to the Schalke academy at the age of 13 and was fostered there for four years before joining the first team of the Gelsenkirchen side club.
The footballer’s Bundesliga début came on 25 February 2006 in the match against FC Nuremberg, when he came on as a substitute for Lincoln in the 87th minute. On 16 March the same year, Baumjohann came on the pitch in his first Euro Cups match versus Palermo in the UEFA Cup Round of 16, but that was still a sub appearance in the 91st minute of the game.
Later Alexander took part only in one Bundesliga match for Schalke 04, which pushed him to the signing for Borussia Mönchengladbach. He played several Bundesliga matches during 2006/2007 and scored his first goal in the main German championship on 30 August 2008. That spectacular shot was later voted the goal of the month.
The 2009/2010 season was marked by his move to Bayern Munich on a free transfer. Baumjohann made only three appearances for the main team of ‘The Bavarians’ and three appearances for Bayern Munich II.
At the beginning of January 2010 the head coach of Schalke 04 Felix Magath had an agreement with the Munich side club on returning the German footballer back to Gelsenkirchen. In 2012 Alexander switched to Bundesliga 2 side Kaiserslautern and one year later to Hertha Berlin.
Alexander was capped seven times for the German national youth team in different U-17 tournaments. He also took part in two matches of the national U-21 squad: on 27 March 2009 against Holland and on 31 March the same year against Belarus.
