Alexander Merkel is a midfielder of Udinese Calcio football club. He was born on 22 February 1992 in Kazakhstan.
Merkel started his youth career at the age of six in Westerwald. Later he was noticed by the football academy of Stuttgart and stayed there for five years. In 2008 the talented midfielder was scouted by AC Milan and immediately moved to Italy.
In 2009 Alexander got a chance to come on the pitch for AC Milan in one of the friendlies. He played in six friendlies up to 2011.
In 2011 the German became the player of Genoa in co-ownership with Milan. He was a constant guest of the starting eleven during the first half of 2011/12 season which helped him to get necessary experience. Merkel took part in 12 fixtures of Genoa up to January 2012.
In January 2012 the midfielder returned to AC Milan and immediately took part in the Serie A fixture where Rossoneri won. In 2013 he was sold to Udinese Calcio. In 2014 Merkel played on loan for Watford.
Since 2007 to 2011 Alexander Merkel played 20 fixtures for Germany U-15, U-16, U-17, U-18, U-19 and U-20 national teams and found the net twice.
