Alvaro Arbeloa was born in 1983 in Salamanca. Currently, he is a Real Madrid and Spain national team midfielder.
Being a kid, Alvaro drew attention of the Madrid club and was proposed to sign a contract and train with the club. At that time the club was coached by Rafael Benítez. Later the player began to progress fast and joined the reserve team. Soon he got a chance to play a couple matches in the main squad but failed to become a solid roster member.
In 2006, Alvaro requested for a transfer and was sold to Deportivo La Coruña. The request reflected his desire to have constant playing practice and gain a solid place in the Real Madrid main squad which was extremely difficult. With regular appearances the player improved from match to match and could not avoid attention of other famous clubs.
In January 2007, he was spotted by Liverpool F.C. owners and at the end of the month he officially became a player of the team. The transfer was a bargain for Liverpool with only 2.5 million euros paid, half of which went to Real Madrid as it was them who had all rights for the player.
Alvaro made his fully fledged debut in the team’s main squad in the UEFA Champions League 1/8 final versus FC Barcelona. The player’s main task was to control the fast Lionel Messi and by far thanks to successful display of the defender his team managed to score twice opposed to a single goal from Barcelona that granted a victory to the club.
In April 2007, Alvaro scored his first goal for the English club. Before the 2007/08 season Alvaro changed his number ‘2’ for ‘17’ which was free after Craig Bellamy’s departure. A year later Alvaro made his debut in the Spain national team.
In 2009, Real Madrid realized they needed their alumnus and returned him to the native team. Alvaro became one of the sounding Real Madrid acquisitions in 2009. Currently, he is one of the key wingback players.
