A Portuguese football player André Filipe Ribeiro Leão operates as a central midfielder for Paços de Ferreira. He was born on 20 May 1985 in Freamunde.
André started trying his hand at professional football in 2003, when a contract with Freamunde was penned. He graduated from the club’s academy, where he’d been studying during three years. Unfortunately, he didn’t get enough playing time to reveal his talent, as the head coach considered him to be unprepared for performances at the senior level.
In the summer 2005, the midfielder’s contract was bought out by Porto, where he performed for the reserved team. André made 25 appearances and scored 16 goals for the Lisbon squad.
In 2006, after the midfielder hadn’t got the opportunity to play for the main team, a move to Beira-Mar happened. Over the course of a season, he made 20 appearances and netted 2 goals.
In the summer 2007, Leão moved to Romania, where he played for CFR Cluj. He didn’t become the team’s starter, as he was still considered to be an inexperienced player. He only made 26 appearances all as a sub during the spell.
In 2010, André came back to his motherland to perform for Paços de Ferreira. The player was lucky to clinch into the first team immediately. He continues to play for the squad, making starts in almost all fixtures.
The footballer got 9 caps for the Portugal national U-20 team in the 2004/2005 season. He was lucky to find the net one time.
