André Luiz Silva do Nascimento is a Brazilian defender of Palmeiras. He was born on January 27, 1980 in São João del Rei, Brazil.
André Luiz played for the junior team of Cruzeiro, before signing his first professional deal with the Brazilian side in 2000. He also played for Ipatinga and Tupi, before he penned a contract with Atlético Mineiro in 2003. Despite his lack of playing experience, the young defender was often inserted into the starting eleven, later becoming a first-team regular. During his 2003-2005 stay at the club André made 72 appearances and scored 5 goals. Thanks to his impressive display in Brazil, a number of European sides declared their interest in André’s services.
In 2005 Luiz completed a move to AS Nancy. Since then he featured in more than 250 matches and scored over 15 goals for the French side, gradually becoming one of the key players and a captain at Nancy.
In 2013 André Luiz returned to Brazil and joined Palmeiras.
