Andrew Lonergan is a goalkeeper of Bolton Wanderers. He was born on 19 October 1983 in Preston, England.
Andrew started to play football in the academy of local Preston North End, where he managed to give the final touch to all the preparations for a professional level. In 2000, the footballer put pen to paper of his first senior contract with the club, but faced high competition for a regular place between the posts and went on loan to Darlington. However, after one week with the temporary team, Lonergan got an injury and was ruled out till the end of the season.
In 2003, the keeper was loaned out to Blackpool, but did not come on the pitch during his spell. From 2005 till 2006, Andrew performed for Wycombe Wanderers and Swindon Town on temporary basis, but took part only in three fixtures for both clubs during his time there.
After returning to his parent Preston North End, the footballer sat on the substitutes’ bench, but his diligence and workmanship eventually earned him a spot in the starting line-up and two Player of the Year awards (in the 2008/2009 season and the 2009/2010 season). In August 2009, Lonergan became a vice-captain of the team, which gave him an additional impetus to take his tally to 207 matches for ‘The Lilywhites’ by 2011.
In July 2011, the goalie sealed a three-year deal with Leeds United and made 35 appearances for ‘The Peacocks’ during one season.
In July 2012, Andrew completed a move to Bolton Wanderers.
In 2000, the footballer took part in one game for the Republic of Ireland national U-16 squad. From 2002 till 2003, he was capped ten times for the England national U-20 team.
