In 2010, the footballer returned to his native town and started to play for Girona, where he became the anchor midfielder at once. Martínez made 36 appearances during the 2010/2011 season and drew the attention of various European teams.
In 2011, English side Blackpool lodged a tempting bid for Ángel, which was accepted. The footballer moved to England in the summer the same year and started to adapt to the new atmosphere. He featured in over 60 matches for ‘The Tangerines’ during three seasons.
From 2005 till 2008, Martínez was capped six times for the Spain national U-19 and U-21 squads.
