A Brazilian footballer Mário Lúcio Costa Duarte, commonly referred to as Aranha, acts as a goalkeeper for Santos. Duarte was born on 17 November 1980 in Pouso Alegre.
In 1997, Mário entered the academy of Porte Preta. Whilst playing for the youth team, the footballer was nicknamed Aranha by his coach. The goalkeeper graduated from the academy and in 2002 became the official member of Ponte Preta’s senior team. In 2008, he was voted the best goalkeeper of the São Paulo State Championship and the team became the Runners-up at the Campeonato Paulista. In 2009, the club was crowned the champion of the Campeonato Paulista do Interior. Mário was an essential member of the first eleven. His performance couldn’t be left unnoticed by the other clubs. The goalkeeper received numerous offers from different clubs. Nevertheless, he remained at his club up until the end of 2009. His spell with Ponte Preta was lined with 124 appearances.
In 2009, a deal was agreed with Atlético Mineiro. Aranha featured in 18 games during the course of the 2009/2010 season. In 2011, the goalkeeper was transferred to Santos. The move proved to be a success with the player gaining the further honors. He was named the champion of the Campeonato Paulista under the flag of Santos two times in a row (in 2011 and 2012). In 2011, Aranha was awarded with the Copa Libertadores. He also became the winner of the 2012 Recopa Sudamericana.
