Asamoah Gyan was born on 22 November 1985 in Accra, Ghana.
He began his professional career as a striker at a local side Liberty Professionals in 2003 and was signed by Italian club Udinese in the same year. Since 2004 till 2006, Asamoah spent two seasons on loan at Serie B side Modena in order to gain necessary experience and then returned to the top flight to score 11 goals in 39 appearances for Udinese. In between 2008 and 2011, Gyan played for the French Ligue 1 club Rennes. He had a productive 2009/10 season amassing 13 goals in 29 league matches. In the summer 2010, Gyan left for the English Premier League and joined Sunderland impressing with 10 goals in 31 games in a debut season.
In 2011, the Ghanaian striker moved on loan to the UAE side Al Ain. He scored 22 times in 18 matches during his temporary spell. These sparkling results impressed the club’s management and they signed Gyan on a permanent deal.
Asamoah Gyan is a regular international for Ghana since 2003. He is the author of the fastest goal of the 2006 World Cup which he scored in the 68th second. Moreover, that goal was the first one that Ghana national team ever scored in the World Cup. Gyan cut a brilliant figure during the 2010 World Cup as leв his team to 1-0 victory over Serbia in Ghana’s first match of the competition. He also scored a terrific penalty helping his side to end in a 1-1 draw with Australia. For these splendid performances Gyan was awarded two Man of the Match titles.
