Bas Dost is a Dutch footballer born on 31 May 1989 in Deventer, the Netherlands, who currently plays as a forward for VfL Wolfsburg.
Bas started his football career with hometown side Germanicus where he was trained as a forward. After a while, the scouts of cash-rich club FC Emmen called on Germanicus in search of young hopefuls for their youth academy and Bas Dost appeared in their roster as a highly promising young footballer.
After successfully finishing FC Emmen’s youth academy, Dost signed his first professional contract with the club. Already in the first 2007/08 season at Emmen he powered in the ball for 6 times in 23 games.
In 2008 the Eredivisie club Heracles Almelo made a bid of €300,000 for Emmen’s forward, where he eventually moved afterwards. During the two campaigns for Heracles, Bas Dost appeared almost in all games, amassing 61 of them, and scored 17 goals for the club.
In 2010 another Dutch club showed his willingness to possess Dost. It was SC Heerenveen which signed a skilful striker on a five-year contract for a transfer fee of around €670,000. In the 2008-2010 seasons Bas Dost scored in total 47 goals in 66 appearances for the club. He also finished as Eredivisie top scorer in the 2011/12 campaign with 32 league goals in 34 matches.
Bas Dost had 4 appearances for the Netherlands national U-20 football team in 2007-2009 and scored 5 goals in 10 matches for the Netherlands U-21 team.
