Bohdan Shust is a goalkeeper for Metalist Kharkiv. He was born on 4 March 1986 in a small Ukrainian town Sudova Vyshnya.
At the age of 15 Bohdan entered Karpaty Lviv youth system. Four years later, in the first half of the 2003/04 season, the goalkeeper made 14 appearances for Ukrainian Second League side Halychyna-Karpaty Lviv. In the 2005/06 season Shust became the first goalkeeper of the Green Lions. In the same season Karpaty defeated Shakhtar out of the Ukrainian Cup and reached the semifinals of the tournament, which was to the great extent of Shust’s merit.
In 2005, Bohdan sealed a 5-year deal with Shakhtar. The Donetsk club paid 800,000 Euros for the Ukrainian goalie. Shust made his official debut for the Miners on 15 February 2006 in a UEFA Cup away match against French Lille.
A few weeks later, on 5 March 2006, Bohdan made his debut for the Miners in the Ukrainian Premier League in a 1-1 draw against Tavriya Simferopol. At the end of the season Shust was included in the symbolic team of the Ukrainian championship. However, in the summer of 2007 Andriy Pyatov supplemented the ranks of the Donetsk club, and Bohdan lost his place in the starting lineup.
Unable to compete with Pyatov, Shust was loaned to Metalurh Donetsk in the summer of 2009. However, he stayed there for only six months, and played only five matches, because of Vladimir Dishlenkovich’s more solid performance.
In January 2010 Shust was loaned to Zorya Luhansk until the end of 2010/11 season, for which he made 14 starts. In the early 2011 he was loaned to Illichivets Mariupol. After returning from loan Bohdan became Shakhtar’s second goalkeeper due to Oleksandr Rybka disqualification. In January 2013 he was released to Metalist as part of Taison deal.
Bohdan played for the Ukraine U-18, U-19 and U-21 teams, totaling 21 caps. In 2005 he took part in FIFA World Youth Championship, where he was a backup goalkeeper. On 28 February 2006 Bohdan Shust made his first appearance for the senior side of Ukraine in a match against Azerbaijan. In the same year he was a reserve goalkeeper for Ukraine at FIFA World Cup 2006.
