Borja Oubiña Meléndez was born in 1982 in Vigo, Spain, and currently plays for Celta de Vigo as a defensive midfielder. Having played for several local youth teams, Oubiña joined Celta de Vigo’s youth team, then moved to reserves and after that he made his debut for the senior team in a 2-2 draw against Valencia CF. In the next seasons he was one of the key players but after Celta relegated in 2006/07, Oubiña said that he wanted to leave the club.
In August 2007, a Spanish footballer completed a one-year long deal for Birmingham City, but that spell wasn’t a successful one as Oubiña made his debut on 15 September 2007 and in the next match he suffered a serious injury. He was sidelined and in February he returned to Celta. The next game, he appeared in, followed in a year, when he played for four minutes. He featured in 14 more matches of the 2008/09 season and the 2009/10 season he got treatment.
Borja Oubiña recovered and had a full 2011/12 season, when he appeared in 28 games (he was a starter in 24 matches) and helped Celta de Vigo to return to the top division after a five-year absence.
