Brede Hangeland is a defender, born on 20 June 1981 in Houston, United States.
In 2000 Brede began his pro career in Viking by signing a contract and joining the first team of the club, where he almost immediately got to the starting line-up. Hangeland was gradually adapting to professional football and making confident and positive defensive display. He became one of the anchor players of the team, made 114 appearances and scored six goals during five years in Viking.
In 2005 Dutch side Copenhagen lodged a bid for the Norwegian defender, received a positive answer and embarked on negotiations. In January 2006 Brede’s move to the new club was finalized. He spent two and a half years with the ‘Byens Hold’, took part in 63 matches and netted three goals, which roused the interest of various European teams.
In 2008 English side Fulham made an offer to Brede and Copenhagen they could not refuse. The transfer terms satisfied all parties and Hangeland signed a new contract in the summer. Since then, he was the pivot of defense and did not lose that status after his four seasons in ‘The Cottagers’, where the footballer made 267 appearances. In 2014, Hangeland was released by Felix Magath.
From 2001 till 2003, Brede took part in 12 matches of the Norway national U-21 team. From 2002 he has been capped for the national squad.
