A Spanish footballer Rubén Gracia Calmache, also known as Cani, performs as a midfielder for Villarreal CF. Rubén was born on 3 August 1981 in Zaragoza.
In 2000, Cane signed his first contract with Zaragoza B and his senior career began. But the footballer was soon loaned out by Utebo, where the 2000/2001 season passed.
Gracia made his first appearance for the main squad of Zaragoza during the 2001/2002 season in a match with Barcelona. Nevertheless, he was still considered to be the player of the reserve team. Altogether, he amassed 6 goals in 31 matches for the B side.
The 2002/2003 season turned to be very successful for the club, as it got its place in the top flight. Cani became the squad’s important element very soon. He won the Copa del Rey in the 2003/2004 season. The following 2005/2006 season proved to be very fortunate for the footballer, as he turned into one of the best passers of La Liga.
In the summer 2006, Cani was scouted by Villarreal. The contract was penned for a fee of €11 million. The player’s debut season was lined with 32 appearances made and the team’s second place won in the competition. Almost all the appearances were produced from the bench, as the midfielder wasn’t at that time a regular member of the starting team.
The next season was lined with 22 appearances made and 6 goals racked up. When the head coach Manuel Pellegrini left, Gracia managed to earn the place in the first line-up immediately.
