Cao Yang is a Chinese footballer, born on 15 December 1981 in Tianjin, China.
Cao is a product of the FC Tianjin Teda youth system. In 2000 he finally signed a professional contract with the Chinese club. At the beginning of his professional career he struggled to get enough playing time, being considered as a rotation option. The head coach saw player’s potential and tried to give him as many first-team opportunities as possible. Being able to play equally effective both in defense and midfield, Yang gave his best to convince his coach and senior teammates that he is ready to play a key role at the club.
Finally, he managed to fight his way through the first-team, becoming an important player for the squad. Despite being a defensive player, he managed to achieve really impressive goal-scoring record, hitting the net on more than 40 occasions. The footballer also played a significant role in the club’s success during the 2008 season, helping his club to finish fourth in the league and qualify for the AFC Champions League.
At the international level Yang made his debut in 2002, being called-up to join the China national football team.
