Carl Medjani was born on 15 May 1985 in Lyon, France. He currently plays as a centre back for Olympiacos.
His youth career began in 2000 at AS Saint-Étienne where he played until 2003. In the summer of 2003, Liverpool signed a three-year professional contract with the player. Medjani joined the club for only one season, during which he did not play a single match. After that, in 2004, Liverpool management decided to send the player on a season-long loan to Lorient. The club was promoted to the French Ligue 1 and for Carl it was a great opportunity to gain more experience. In the 2004/2005 season Medjani performed in 25 matches. The next season, Medjani played on loan at FC Metz where he made 23 appearances.
In 2006, Medjani rejoined Lorient, this time on a permanent basis. Carl signed the contract with the French club for two years, until 2008. During a two-year stint, the player took part in only nine games.
For the 2007/2008 season the club sent Carl on loan to AC Ajaccio. Carl Medjani became a key player in the team and appeared on the pitch throughout the whole season, amassing 35 matches and 1 goal.
In 2008, the temporary contract expired and Ajaccio decided to offer Medjani a deal making him a key defensive player. In the summer of 2008, Carl signed a permanent contract and performed for the French Ligue 1 club till 2013 when he moved to Monaco. After a short spell with the club Medjani sugned a deal with Greece champions Olympiacos in the summer 2013.
Carl Medjani began his international career in 2001. He played 16 times in the France U-16 team, 10 times in U-17, 8 times in the U-18 and 5 times in the U-21 teams. As Carl is an Algerian citizen, he made the switch to represent Algeria in international competitions and is capped for the senior squad since 2010.
