Carlos was trained at the youth academy of Deportes Tolima. In 2006 the footballer began playing professionally with this Colombian club. All in all, he kicked 37 goals in 52 matches for Deportes Tolima. In 2007 Quintero joined Russian side Krylia Sovetov Samara together with his compatriot Juan Carlos Escobar. They became the first Colombian footballers to play in the Russian Premier League.
