A Brazilian footballer Charles Fernando Basílio da Silva is a defensive midfielder for Brazilian Cruzeiro. He was born on 14 February 1985 in Rio de Janeiro.
Charles started out in the youth team of Cruzeiro, where he was groomed during 2 years. In 2005, he graduated to the club’s senior squad. But hardly had he grabbed his first pro contract, when a temporary deal was subsequently struck with Ipatinga. The midfielder had managed to participate in few matches before he was hired by Cabofriense. There he had a brief spell, making 2 appearances and returning again to Ipatiga. He spent a season with the temporary team and, finally, Lokomotiv offered him a contract.
In 2008, Fernando set foot in Lokomotiv Moscow, where he remained until 2011. He appeared 24 times for the Russia side. In 2011, the footballer spent a short time playing for Santos and very soon he agreed on a temporary deal with his boyhood club – Cruzeiro. When the spell was coming to an end, the head coach pressed the club’s management to offer Charles a permanent contract, and so they did.
In 2013 Charles was loaned to Palmeiras.
The midfielder also got the taste of trophy-winning, when Santos came on top of the 2011 Campeonato Paulista and the 2011 Copa Libertadores.
