Chen Tao is a Chinese midfielder, born on 11 March 1985 in Anshan, China.
In 2002 Tao joined his first professional club FC Shenyang Ginde, where he was able to demonstrate his talents with the first-team even at the early stages of his career. There he established himself as a versatile midfielder, being able to play both in the center and on the flanks. Despite being mostly used as a sub, he got enough playing practice at the club and was able not only to develop his football skills, but also caught the attention of other clubs. Chen played for the club until 2007, making 79 first-team appearances and scoring 11 goals.
In 2008 the player tried to secure a move to FC Luch-Energiya Vladivostok, but the transfer collapsed, as the Chinese side refused to sign transfer papers. So, Tao was benched for the entire next season, being still contractually obliged to FC Shenyang Ginde and was finally transferred to FC Shanghai Shenhua in 2009. Chen soon became an important first-team member, enjoying his best form playing for the Shanghai club and soon drew the attention of FC Tianjin Teda scouts. In 2010 Tao joined the Tianjin club on a loan deal. There he was able to impress the head coach, which expressed his desire to sign the player on a permanent basis. Tao also liked his new role and agreed a full-time deal with the club in 2011. In 2013 he moved to Dalian Aerbin.
On the international arena, Chen represented his national side both at U20 and U23 levels. Since 2005 he receives regular call-ups from the senior national football team.
