João Gonçalves (China) is a professional Portuguese footballer, born on April 15, 1982 in Beja, Portugal.
From 2000 till 2001 João Gonçalves trained at the academy of Farense SC and in 2001 started playing for Desportivo Beja. One year later the defender joined Pombal SC and by the year of 2003 was experienced enough to play for Fátima CD. In the 2003/2004 season the young defender showed his best and participated in almost all matches of Fátima CD.
In 2004 China signed up with Maia FC and stayed there for the season of 2004/2005, remaining one of the key players of the defense. In total, he made 31 appearances for the team.
From 2005 till 2008 the defender performed for Naval and that time was one of the most successful stages of his career. He took part in almost all fixtures of the club and had a chance to show his prominent talent and abilities on the pitch. Over 3 seasons João Gonçalves played in 85 matches for the Portuguese side.
From 2008 till 2009 China featured for Belenenses CF and in 2009 started playing for Metalurh Donetsk FC. In 2014 China moved to Cyprus and joined Ermis.
