Chris Baird is a defender from Northern Ireland. He was born on 25 February 1982 in Rasharkin, Northern Ireland.
The footballer’s youth career took off in the academy of Ballymena United, which he joined at early age. Several years later the defender drew the attention of English side Southampton academy and club’s scouts made everything necessary for Chris to complete a move to their team in 1998. It took Baird another four years to graduate and reach the level of a professional player. His career moved on to a new footing in 2002, when the defender ended his academy spell and joined the first squad of Southampton.
In 2002 Chris Baird signed a professional contract with Southampton and began to work with the first team at their training ground, but went on loan the following season so that to gain his first performing experience. The footballer spent some time with Walsall and made ten appearances for the club. In 2004 he was sent on loan again, this time to Watford, where Braid took part in eight matches. After Chris returned to his parent club, he made more confident display and the management let him on the pitch more often. The defender was given an opportunity to show his skills in 68 games of the team during his spell in Southampton.
In 2007 Baird attracted the attention of Fulham and decided to formalize his relation with the club on permanent basis by signing a contract with them in the summer 2007. From then and up to 2013 Chris regularly came on the pitch in the starting line-up and became one of the pivots in the back line of ‘The Cottagers’. Later he had spells with Reading and Burnley. In the summer 2014 Baird moved to West Bromwich Albion.
From 2002 till 2003, Chris Baird was a player of the Northern Ireland national U-21 team and made six appearances for it. From 2003 the defender has been capped for the full national squad.
