A Spanish defender Christian Fernández Salas was born on 15 October 1985 in Santander, Cantabria.
Fernández started his career at Racing in 2003, when he was selected to play for the club’s reserve squad. He had to perform for the B team until 2007, when he was finally promoted to the main team of Racing Santander. During that period the defender amassed 16 goals in 108 matches. In 2008, the footballer was loaned out by Las Palmas, where he spent a year appearing 23 times and scoring four balls. After the spell with the temporary team had come to an end, Christian returned to his parent club. Altogether he made 90 appearances and netted eight goals for Racing Santander.
The defender made 29 league appearances and racked up two goals for Racing during the 2009/2010 season, having a breakthrough year. Thanks to his good game, the club avoided relegation. The defender also played an essential role in the semifinals of the Spanish Cup. In the 2011/2012 season, after the change of the head coach, Christian started to get less playing time than he used to get.
In the summer 2012, Fernández was scouted by Almeria. He agreed on a two-year long contract and helped the club to get promotion to the top flight.
In 2014 Fernandez moved to D.C. United from MLS.
