Collins Mbesuma was born on December 3, 1984 in Luanshya, Zambia. Currently he plays as centre-forward for South African side Orlando Pirates. The Pirates’ supporters were impressed with Mbesuma’s skill and pace to such an extent that they gave him a nickname of The Hurricane or Ntofontofo.
Mbesuma started his football career by playing for Zambian side Roan United.
In 2003 he has earned his first Zambia call-up and made four caps by the end of that year. At the same time Mbesuma was an integral part of Zambia’s under-23 side that almost succeeded in progressing to the Athens Olympics.
South African side Kaizer Chiefs have decided to buy the talented player after a string of impressive performances for the national team. Mbesuma took the Premier Soccer League by the storm scoring impressive 27 goals in 33 matches in season 2004-2005. Impressive record of 35 goals a season earned the Zambian forward the The PSL Player of the Season award.
Shortly after the successful spell with Kaizer Chiefs, Mbesuma was bought by the Premier League side Portsmouth. However he has made just four substitute appearances for the English side and was instructed to train with the reserves due to the overweight problems. He penned a season-long deal with Portuguese side CS Maritimo on loan terms in July, 2006, where he has made 23 appearances and scored 7 goals.
After a short spell with the Turkish Bursaspor (2007-2008), he has returned in South Africa.
He was playing three different South African clubs (Mamelodi Sundowns, Moroka Swallows, Golden Arrows) before finally joining Orlando Pirates.
Mbesuma has won 39 caps for his national side scoring 15 goals. In 2012 he has won the Africa Cup of Nations title with Zambia.
