Costel Pantilimon is a goalkeeper, born on 1 February 1987 in Bacău, Romania.
Costel began his professional career in 2003, joining Aerostar Bacău. He signed his first professional contract and played for the club till 2005. During two years, Pantilimon didn’t make many appearances in the first team and played only nine games.
In 2005 Costel transferred to Politehnica Timişoara. First, the young goalkeeper was sent to the reserve team and took part in 26 matches in 2005/2006. After that successful season, Pantilimon was asked to join the first team and played there till 2011. During five years, Pantilimon made 93 appearances for the club.
In 2011 the footballer went on loan to Man City. The club wanted the Romanian player to be the second-choice goalkeeper. Pantilimon had a lot of opportunities to show his worth and Man City offered him to sign a contract. Costel accepted the offer and helped the club to win The League Cup and Premier League in 2014.
In the summer 2014 Pantilimon switched for Sunderland in an attempt to become a first-choice stopper.
From 2003 till 2008 Pantilimon took part in 10 matches of the Romania national U-17 and U-21 teams. From 2008 he has played for the senior national team.
