Craig Gardner is a midfielder, born on 25 November 1986 in Solihull, England.
Craig ended his preparations for the professional start in the academy of Aston Villa in 2005, when he penned a senior contract with the club. The footballer got a chance to spend five years with ‘The Villans’ and make occasional appearances for the team. Gardner was used as a sub midfielder, but the head coach always asked him to come off the bench in difficult situations. Craig featured in 59 games and found the net five times for the club during his spell.
In 2010 Gardner ended his Aston Villa career with Birmingham City move, where he performed during one year. The footballer managed to clinch a place in the main squad and fired nine goals in 42 fixtures for the new team. All in all, Craig had a very fruitful season, which drew the attention of various English side clubs and raised his transfer cost.
In 2011 Sunderland lodged a tempting bid for the midfielder, which was accepted by Birmingham City in the summer 2011. Gardner spent the 2011/2012 season in the starting squad of the new club and skipped only a couple of matches, when he needed to have a rest after eventful months.
After three successful seasons with the Black Cats, Gardner moved to West Bromwich Albion in the summer 2014.
From 2007 till 2009, Craig was capped 14 times and contributed two goals for the England national U-21 team.
