Cristian Dario Alvárez is an Argentine goalkeeper playing for RCD Espanyol, also the captain of the club.
He started to play football in his hometown club Rosario Central. Cristian made his debut in the Libertadores Cup facing a Paraguayan club Cerro Porteño on February 23, 2006. This encouraged the young goalie to keep on working hard in order to earn the number 1 on his shirt (which he finally did) being entrusted a place in the starting eleven for two seasons in a row.
In May 2008 Alvárez signed for a Spanish club Espanyol penning a 5-year deal. For the first three years he was the second choice to a Cameroonian Carlos Kameni being allowed to play only in the domestic Cup games. He managed to play four games in a row only when Cameni left for Africa to represent his country in the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations. In 2011 Carlos was awarded a constant place in the start for the whole season 2011/12. Throughout his career for Espanyol he appeared in 38 league games.
