Custódio Castro is a defensive midfielder of Braga. He was born on 24 May 1983 in Guimarães, Portugal.
The footballer started his youth career in 1996 when he succeeded on the try-out to the academy of Vitória de Guimarães. Custódio joined one of the youth teams of the academy where he spent three years. During this time the Portuguese midfielder took part in different junior championships with his team. In 1999 the footballer caught the eye of Sporting scouts that visited one of the matches of his youth team. In the summer 1999 Custódio officially moved to the academy of Sporting where he spent two final years of his football formation before starting off his professional career.
In 2001 he signed a professional contract with Sporting. From 2001 to 2007 Custódio appeared in 95 matches for the Lisbon football club.
In 2007 Dynamo Moscow offered Sporting to purchase the Portuguese midfielder. The parties quickly agreed on the terms of his transfer and in the summer 2007 Custódio signed for the Russian outfit. In spite of the fact that it was a long-term contract, the footballer spent only one season with his new side taking part in 8 games. He didn’t fit in with the club. Moreover, it was difficult for him to adjust to a new way of life which totally differed from his Portuguese one.
In January 2009 Custódio got a chance to return to his motherland. He re-joined Vitória de Guimarães where he had started his youth career. From 2009 to 2010 the footballer appeared on the football field 27 times with this Portuguese side. The 2009/2010 season was a success for Custódio. In the summer 2010 the midfielder completed a move to Braga where he makes strong performances until now.
From 2003 to 2006 Custódio Castro featured in 13 matches for the Portugal U-21 national football team. In 2012 the footballer earned his first call-up to the senior side.
