Damien Delaney is a back of Crystal Palace. He was born on 20 July 1981 in Cork, Ireland.
Damien’s professional career took off in 1998, when the footballer penned his first senior contract with local Cork City. Delaney performed for the club during two seasons, but did not have enough playing time to be confident of his future.
In 2000, Leicester City secured the back’s services, but he was not given an opportunity to become a regular at once. In 2001, Damien went on loan to Stockport County and netted one goal in 12 fixtures for the team during six months. In 2002, the footballer sealed a temporary deal with Huddersfield Town and made two appearances before completing a loan move to Mansfield Town, where he featured in seven matches.
In 2002, Hull City lodged a tempting bid for Delaney and gave him a chance to clinch a spot in the starting XI. The back used the chance and became the pivot, who fired five goals in 224 games for ‘The Tigers’ during six years.
In 2008, Damien transferred to Queens Park Rangers and found the net two times in 54 fixtures for the club during one season. In the summer 2009, the footballer put pen to paper of a contract with Ipswich Town and scored two goals in 98 matches for ‘The Tractor Boys’ till August 2012, when he signed for Crystal Palace.
From 2008, Delaney has been capped five times for the Republic of Ireland national squad.
