Dani Mallo

A Spanish footballer Daniel Mallo Castro, aka Dani, performs as a goalkeeper for Girona FC. Daniel was born on 25 January 1979 in Cambre, Galicia.

In 1994, Dani entered the academy of Sporting Cambre and his junior career began. He spent the 1994/1995 season playing for the club’s youth team. Very soon his performance was noticed by Deportivo La Coruña and the keeper was drafted into the youth department of the club. He spent two years performing for the junior squad and getting ready to start a senior career.

In 1997, Mallo signed for Deportivo B team and his professional career began. The goalkeeper spent four years with the reserves, appearing both as a member of the first eleven and as a substitute player. Nevertheless, Dani didn’t manage to establish himself as the regular player of the first line-up. In total, he made 76 appearances for the B team. In 2001, a promotion to the main squad of Deportivo La Coruña happened, but the footballer’s career with the team turned to be unfortunate. He was increasingly used as a substitute player and almost all the matches were spent at the bench. In total, Dani appeared three times for Deportivo La Coruña. In 2003, the goalkeeper was loaned out by Elche. Mallo managed to produce a solid performance during the spell, making 38 appearances.

In 2008, Dani moved to Portugal, where he joined Braga. He penned a two-year contract and joined the team. The spell was lined with eight appearances made. In January 2009, the footballer agreed on a short deal with Falkirk. Before moving to Girona, Mallo made 15 appearances for Falkirk. In the summer 2009, Dani was announced an official member of Girona FC. The first three seasons at the club were lined with 42 appearances made.

On international level, Dani Mallo used to perform for the Spain national youth team at U-18 and U-21 levels. In total, he appeared 13 times for the squad from 1996 to 2000.
