Daniel Agger is a centre back of Liverpool F.C. He was born on 12 December 1984 in Hvidovre, Denmark.
Daniel began his career in the local club Rosenhøj academy, where the young back trained and played for the youth team till 1996. In 1996 Agger drew the attention of Brøndby scouts during one of the matches. Daniel was invited to a trial and successfully showed his skills in a demonstration game, which led to an offer to join the club academy. Agger accepted the offer and was a trainee of Brøndby during eight years till 2004.
In 2004 Agger’s level, diligence and talent helped him to receive an offer to sign the first professional contract with Brøndby. He accepted the offer in the same year and officially became a player of the club’s first team. During two years till 2006, he often took part in the matches, making 34 appearances and scoring five goals.
In 2006 English side Liverpool took an interest in the young Danish footballer as it was refreshing its defensive line at that time. Club’s selectionists enjoyed Agger’s performance and recommended the team management to transfer him. Liverpool paid £6 million and Daniel signed a four-and-a-half year contract, according to which the footballer has been playing for the club up till now. Agger did not become a regular in the first season and made only sub appearances. In due course the head coach of the team gave him more opportunities to make starts. Thereby, from 2006 Daniel has taken part in 170 matches and has netted eight goals.
From 2003 till 2006 Agger played for the Denmark national U-20 and U-21 teams, made 19 appearances and contributed four goals. From 2005 Daniel took part in 49 matches of the senior national squad and kicked 6 goals.
