Daniel Baier was born on 18 May 1984 in Cologne, West Germany. Baier was the son of a professional footballer Jürgen Baier who played for SC Fortuna Köln. Daniel moved with his family to Hanover, where his father died in 1996. In this regard, his family moved to Aschaffenburg, where Daniel’s brother also began his football career.
Daniel himself started his career in Teutonia Obernau, but he considers TSV Mainaschaff to be his feeder club. He spent six years in that club, and in 1998 joined Viktoria Aschaffenburg. In 1999, the player signed for TSV 1860 Munich, in which he began his professional career. At that time he mostly performed as a playmaker. In total, a young midfielder played 107 matches and netted three goals for Munich.
In the 2007/2008 season, Baier signed a three-year contract with Wolfsburg. On 1 September 2008, the player was sent on loan to Augsburg, in which he stayed until the end of the season, participating in 23 matches. Daniel’s results were excellent, and the club signed a deal with him till 2014.
Daniel succeeded in performing for the youth national team. In 2005, he was called up to the U-21, for which he made his debut on 7 October 2005 in the European Championship match against Wales, playing on the pitch from the first minutes.
