A German football player with Italian origins Daniel Caligiuri was born on January, 15 1988 in Villingen-Schwenningen, Germany. Daniel is not the only one who plays professional football in his family – his elder brother Marco is also a footballer and represents the German team FSV Mainz 05. Daniel defends the colors of VfL Wolfsburg and usually takes the position of midfielder there.
Daniel started to play football for BSV 07 Schwenningen. His next football destination was SV Zimmern where he trained till 2005. In 2005 at the age of 19 the footballer moved to the German club of SC Freiburg. He spent two years in the Oberliga playing for the junior U-19 team where he scored 14 goals in 45 games. After that he moved to the Regionalliga where was called up for the reserve team of SC Freiburg - SC Freiburg II. Daniel’s Bundesliga debut took place on November, 7 2009 when he was included in the starting line-up of the main team to play the match against VfL Bochum which ended in a 2-1 victory.
On February, 10 2012 Daniel netted his first goal in the top division of the German championship playing against VfL Wolfsburg. He made a successful hit at the very beginning of the match – on the 2nd minute. Altogether the player made 70 appearances for the reserve team with 23 scores. He fielded for the main squad 87 times.
At the end of 2012/2013 season Daniel switched to VfL Wolfsburg.
