Daniel Fernandes is a goalkeeper of Twente. He was born on 25 September 1983 in Edmonton, Canada, and has a dual citizenship (Canadian and Portuguese).
Daniel’s career took off in Vancouver Olympics, but in 2000 the footballer returned to his father’s native country, Portugal, and joined the academy of Porto. He did not stay in the club for too long and soon moved to Spanish side Celta B. In January 2003, the keeper was sent on loan to Jahn Regensburg II, where he stayed till his contract with Celta de Vigo expired.
At the beginning of 2005, Fernandes penned a contract with Greek side PAOK, where he made his professional début on 15 January 2005 in the match against Egaleo F.C., which the latter won 2-1. The keeper made 90 appearances for the club during his spell.
On 23 May 2008, Daniel completed a move to German side Bochum and made his first Bundesliga appearance on 16 August the same year in the 1-0 loss to Karlsruher SC. The footballer spend one season and a half in Germany before being sent on loan first to Iraklis, then to Panathinaikos, and, eventually, to Panserraikos.
After his contract with Bochum expired in 2011, the goalkeeper moved to Romanian side CFR Cluj. However, Fernandes did not stay there for long and finalized a move to Twente five months later. In January 2012, the footballer put pen to paper of a four-year contract with the new club and got number 25 shirt.
