Danny Butterfield played for a number of English clubs as a defender and midfielder. He was born on 21 November 1979 in Boston, England.
In 1993 Danny got to the academy of Grimsby Town, where he spent last four years of his junior career. During that time Butterfield managed to develop into a full-grown footballer, who could perform at the professional level. In 1997 he was offered to pen his first senior five-year contract and the young Englishman accepted the offer without any hesitation. Danny made only several appearances for Grimsby Town in his first season, but his performance went forward at a steady gait the following year, and he managed to make encouraging display. During three years from 1999 till 2002, Butterfield often came on the pitch in the starting line-up and netted three goals in 124 fixtures from the very beginning of his spell.
In 2002 Danny moved to Crystal Palace and performed for the new club during eight years. The footballer managed to become one of the team’s pivots after featuring in 232 games and scoring six goals. In 2009 English side Charlton Athletic wished to secure Butterfield’s services on a six-month loan. The defender made 12 appearances for the temporary club during his spell.
In 2010 Danny officially became a player of Southampton and took part in 44 fixtures of the club till 2012 when he was loaned to Bolton Wanderers.
Upon completion of the loan spell Butterfield was released from Southampton. Carlisle United gave him him another chance to play and offered a contract for the 2013/2014 season.
