Danny Higginbotham is a defender of Stoke City. He was born on 29 December 1978 in Manchester, England.
The footballer’s professional career took off in 1997. After graduating from the academy of Manchester United, Danny spent one year with ‘The Red Devils’ and went on a season-long loan to Belgian side Royal Antwerp, where he made 29 appearances and netted three goals, making a full-scale start at the senior level. After the end of his loan spell, the defender returned to MU and stayed with them during two years, but managed to feature only in four games.
In 2000 Danny moved to Derby County and spent three outstanding seasons there. The footballer managed to fit the team so perfectly the head coach put him in the starting line-up for almost every match. Higginbotham developed his best defensive qualities, which allowed him to keep high level of performance. The English defender featured in 86 games and fired three goals for Derby County during three years.
In 2003 Danny moved to Southampton, where he appeared in 94 matches and kicked four goals during three years of being the pivot of the defense. In 2006 the footballer got acquainted with Stoke City, where he performed during one year, made 45 appearances and went on to net seven times. In 2007, Higginbotham moved to Sunderland, featured in 22 games and found the net thrice during one year.
In 2008 Danny returned to Stoke City, where he had a great season once. His second spell was not so successful, because the defender did not make many appearances and was sent on loan to Nottingham Forest in January 2012. The footballer took part in ten games and contributed one goal for the temporary team. Struggling for a Stoke squad place, Danny left for Sheffield United in 2013.
