Darío Leonardo Conca was born on 11 May 1983 in General Pacheco, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina.
Darío started his youth career at the academy of Tigre. In 1999 the footballer began playing for the club’s youth squad, and then he moved to the youth team of River Plate.
In 2002 Darío Conca penned a professional contrat with River Plate. The player was immediately sent to the reserve team. He couldn’t earn a place in the first team. At the end of the season Darío picked up a severe leg injury which forced him out for a long time.
In 2004 the player was loaned to Chilean side Universidad Católica. Darío won the Chilean Championship together with his club-mates. The footballer made 85 appearances for this club overall and scored 16 goals. Darío became the fans’ idol and was given the nickname “El Mago”.
In 2006 Conca moved to Argentine club Rosario Central as a loan player. Then he served a season-long loan spell at Brazilian outfit Vasco da Gama scoring 6 goals in 30 matches. The footballer was voted one of the best attacking midfielders in Brazil. In 2008 Darío was farmed out to Brazilian club Fluminense. The footballer was in impressive form and became the key player of the team as well as the fans’ idol.
In 2009 Fluminense purchased the player. Before that none of the clubs could do it. Part of the money was raised by the fans who didn’t want to lose their favourite. Conca became the Footballer of the Year in 2009 and 2010 accoring to the fans. Following the results of the 2010 season Darío was voted the best player in the Brazilian Championship.
In December 2010 the club renewed the contract with the footballer for five years. All in all, Conca netted 21 times in 111 appearances for Fluminense. In July 2011 Darío Conca joined a Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande with which he signed a contract for three years and a half. The fee was record for Chinese football, and the player’s salary was the highest in football history at that moment.
Darío featured in 99 matches for Guangzhou Evergrande and kicked in 54 goals.
In January 2014 Dario returned to his former club Fluminense.
In 2002 Darío Conca netted once in 9 matches for the Argentina national U-20 football team.
