Darko Matić is a Bosnian defensive midfielder who defends the colours of Beijing Guoan. He was born on September 26, 1980 in Domaljevac, SFR Yugoslavia.
The player made his professional breakthrough for Tennis Borussia Berlin in 1992. He made his first competitive start aged 17. But his first-team opportunities were at a minimum and he opted for a switch to Swiss side FC Thun in 2000. Darko helped his new team earn a long-awaited promotion to the top tier. In 2002 the box-to-box midfielder returned to his homeland where he sealed a contract with NK Orasje. In his time with the Bosnian club, Matić featured 38 appearances and struck 2 goals.
His assured displays earned him a move to 1. FC Eschborn in 2004. But his return to Germany was not a long stay as the skillful midfielder moved to NK Orasje for another spell. During his season stay with the club, Darko managed to lift the Bosnian Cup. The Slovakian club FC Senec showed interest in bringing Darko Matić to Koba Senec Stadion. In 2005 the club completed the signing of the player. The cultured midfielder made 54 appearances and blasted 3 goals for the club.
In 2007 the Bosnian footballer switched to Tianjin Teda and a year later to Beijing Guoan. Thanks to his spectacular and eye-catching performances Darko was named the best midfielder of the Chinese top tier on four occasions.
