Darren Maatsen is a striker of Excelsior. He was born on 30 January 1991 in Vlaardingen, Netherlands.
Darren’s career took off in local VVHVO, where the footballer performed for various youth teams before completing a move to the academy of FC Dordrecht. Maatsen spent only a year there, because Excelsior Maassluis took an interest in him and offered the striker to join their youth system. The player made 26 appearances and netted six goals for the junior squad of the club during two seasons.
At the beginning of 2011, Darren penned a two-and-a-half-year contract with Rotterdam side Excelsior, where he continues to perform at the position of a striker. Maatsen’s maiden Eredivisie appearance came on 5 August 2011 in the home 0-2 loss to Feyenoord. Two months later, the footballer fired his first goal in the match against Twente, which ended in a 2-2 draw. The Dutchman took part in 29 fixtures and found the net five times for Excelsior during his début season.
