David’s junior career passed at such clubs as Basani Arrow Chiefs, Hlanganani Try Again, Chipeya Sports Academy and Orlando Pirates. In 2002, the footballer penned a contract with Dynamos and his professional career began.

In 2004, Mathebula moved to the promoted club Kaizer Chiefs, where he spent seven years of his career. The player served a loan to Mpumalanga Black Aces in 2011. He scored three goals in 16 games for the temporary squad. In 2011, a deal was agreed with Moroka Swallows.
