David Villa was born on December 3, 1981 in Langreo, Spain.
David’s youth career began in 1991 when he joined the Lada Langreo C.F. academy. During 8 years he was one of the academy’s best students scoring more than other young forwards.
In 1999, David Villa was offered to join Sporting de Gijón. The young forward signed a professional contract with the club but initially joined the club’s reserve team. It was not a bad thing for Villa as being determined the young footballer was ready for great accomplishments in future. During the two years in the club’s reserve squad David played 65 matches and scored 25 goals.
In 2001, the club’s head coach included the talented forward in his team and the young scorer continued to threaten the opponent’s wellbeing having scored 38 goals in 80 matches in 2001-2003.
In 2003, David joined Real Zaragoza from La Liga. During two seasons Villa became the club’s best scorer. He scored 32 goals in 73 La Liga and Copa del Rey matches.
David’s successful displays drew the attention of Valencia CF to him and they were prepared to pay any money for the player to get him. The figures were never announced but according to unconfirmed information the transfer cost more than 15 mln euros. Since 2005 David Villa has been one of the key players of the club’s main squad. He became part of the club’s history after scoring 108 goals in 166 matches over 5 years.
In 2010, David’s career soared to a completely new level. He got an offer from FC Barcelona – La Liga champion and winner of the 2008-2009 UEFA Champions League. The Catalan club paid 40 mln euros for David and raised his salary to equal 7 mln euros a year. David was the club’s main forward. During a three-year spell with Barcelona Villa made 116 appearances and scored 48 goals in all tournaments.
In 2013 the forward completed a move to Atletico Madrid and helped them win La Liga and reach the Champions league final.
In 2014 the 32-year old player signed for a new MLS franchise New York City but first went on loan to fellow Manchester City owned club, Melbourne City.
In 2000-2003, David played several matches for the Spain U-23 national team. And since 2005 he has played for the Spain national team having made almost 100 appearances and scored 56 goals as of 2014.
