David Yelldell was born on 1 October 1981 in Stuttgart and plays for Bayer 04 as a goalkeeper. He is a German-American footballer and has American citizenship, as his father is a citizen of the USA.
David began his professional career in 2002 by joining Stuttgarter Kickers II, but moved to Blackburn after the first season. In 2005 Yelldell made three appearances for his new team and returned to the Regionalliga, signing for Kickers and becoming a first-choice goalkeeper of the club. He made 100 league appearances and three DFB-Pokal appearances for ‘The Blue-Gods’.
In 2007/2008 the goalkeeper and his team managed to get promotion to the 3. Fußball-Liga, but David decided to join TuS Koblenz, which was one division higher. On 19 October 2008, he made a whole clutch of terrible howlers and conceded nine goals in the match against F.C. Hansa Rostock. Yelldell soon left the club due to that poor performance and moved to MSV Duisburg, where he made his début in the DFB-Pokal match against VfB Lübeck.
David struggled for the regular place in the main team for a long time before Bayer 04 bought him. Soon he got an opportunity to play for the new club in the DFB-Pokal match, where he conceded four goals and was substituted.
On 26 June 2011, Yelldell got his first cap for the USA in the match against Argentina.
