Dean Whitehead is a midfielder of Middlesbrough. He was born on 12 January 1982 in Abingdon, England.
In 1999 Dean penned a contract with Oxford United, where he began his professional career. The impression after his first games and experience was a bit unfamiliar for the midfielder, because everything was of higher qualitative level. However, Whitehead soon managed to adapt to the new realities, which helped him to gain confidence of the head coach and come on the pitch rather often. Dean made 122 appearances and netted nine goals for the club during five years.
In 2004 Whitehead made a qualitative leap up the ladder of English divisions. Sunderland secured the services of the footballer and sealed a long-term deal with him. Dean became one of the pivots of the midfield and found the net 13 times in 185 matches for the new club during five years.
In 2009 various English teams (especially from higher leagues) took an interest in the footballer, who wanted to move in a club of either equal level or higher level than his previous one. In the summer 2009, Whitehead penned a contract with Stoke City, because he was satisfied by all conditions offered by ‘The Potters’ and the role he would be given. After the transfer, Dean took part in the pre-season training, where he got acquainted with many players that would become his teammates for following years. The midfielder made 132 appearances and fired three goals for Stoke City during four seasons.
In the summer 2013 Whitehead joined a Championship side Middlesbrough.
